We had a fantastic China Tourstoday but it was definitely hot! The Beijing Vacations students were all wide awake and have a big buffet breakfast here at the Central Garden hotel. We boarded the bus for our Beijing Vacationsexploration of the city. After lunch our China Travelguides Oscar and Sammy took us for a tour through the Forbidden City via the north gate. The students learned about how the city with 9999 rooms was built and how 3,000 people served 100 residents in the home of the emperor and his family during the Ming and Qing dynasties. They also learned the reasons for the construction of the different buildings within the city, and about the specifics of the architecture and layout of the city—the buildings belonging to the most powerful and important are the tallest and they have the greatest number of animal characters on their rooftops to denote this power and prestige. It is very beautiful in the Forbidden City—all the roofs of the buildings are yellow to symbolize the emperor. Many of the buildings have recently undergone renovations so the paintings and artistic details are very beautiful. We have had a wonderful first full day to travel in Beijing. Everyone is happy and healthy and as I write this they are all fast asleep, getting some rest for a big day tomorrow at the Olympic Park-The Bird’s Nest and Water Cube and the Summer Palace. We will finish our day tomorrow and talk Beijing flightsto Shanghai.
