I am starting to wish I would have bought the bag version. The filter in the canister is clogging, rendering the vaccum useless. I brush it off with a brush, and bang it on the ground to loosen fine particles, but that is only temporary.

Does anyone know if you can wash these filters? Or have any tricks for cleaning them? I don't want to pay $20 for a new filter every few months.

yes, you are supposed to clean ALL of the filters (EXCEPT the exterior HEPA air filter) with warm water and allow to air dry for at least 24 hrs before reassembling.

most of these kinds of vacuums have a 3 total filters that must be washed about every 4th or so use: a small silver dollar sized filter, a larger foam ring, and an even larger cardboard textured "gill like" ring. Its OK, the heavy duty cardboard isn't going to disintegrate when you wash it.
