just about all vacuums have pre and post motor filters. if its the pre motor filter, do not vacuum with out it! the pre motor filter is there to keep the dust and dirt from being sucked in the motor, thus causing damage. the post motor filter is used to filter emissions from the motor, i.e. dust, etc. so again, dont vacuum with out the pre motor filter in place!
